Scripture Reading: Matthew 1: 18-23

This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.
As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:
“Look! The virgin will conceive a child!
She will give birth to a son,
and they will call him Immanuel,
which means ‘God is with us.’”

I’m done. I can’t do this. This was not my idea. So many red flags; what were they thinking? Could this be what was going through Joseph’s head? I’ll just let her down quietly; no one will ever know. Then, bam, an angel appears and turns your life around; places everything into perspective. Not too many people report angel sightings these days, however the Lord is still in the business of directing our paths. Today, as we spend time in worship reading these passages, meditate on the idea that your way may not be God’s way. Invite Him to open your mind and eyes to his plans.

Nativity Fast

Allow me to share a new kitchen gadget, a Christmas present to myself, a gadget to create plant based milk. A very good friend of mine hails from China. She shared with me one day her secret to menopause, home brewed soy milk. Incredibly Dr. Neal Bernard of Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine, has been studying the effects of soy on menopause, in particular hot flashes. See for details. Dr. Bernard is a true warrior for chronic illness doing clinical study’s on the impact of food on our bodies. During this fast, all plant based milks are encouraged and if middle age is bringing you down, go for the soy.
