Did you know that garlic is a very powerful antibiotic?  For a really interesting flavor add garlic to your juice.  I warn you to sip it slowly.   But if you’re feeling blue and are having a end of winter virus, try this great addition to your drink.  According to the Juicing Bible by Pat Crocker, garlic provides strong antioxidant action to protect cell membranes against free-radical formation.  Some studies show that even in low doses, garlic stimulates the immune system, increasing the activity of natural “killer cells” to ward off pathogens.  Garlic also has strong antibiotic properties.  And when compared to antibiotics such as penicillin, erythromycin and others commonly prescribed, garlic proved to be as effective.

My juice for today:  FYI.. I’m suffering from a lovely throat virus one of my kids gave me.

Fight Off Free Radicals Juice

1 clove of garlic

1 spear of broccoli

1 inch of ginger

2 carrots

2 apples

Using a juicer, process all vegetables and fruit.  Whisk and pour into a glass. Yum.  Warning… sip slowly.

I always like to share what I’m studying in God’s Word.  Currently, I am reading a bible study about parenting your teenager by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott.  In the study we are reading about different parents and their children from the old testament. There are some interesting role models as parents in the old testament. Some, not so good. However, I was struck by the following verses:  1 Kings 3:6-9.  These verses were written about King Solomon, David’s son. King Solomon was the wisest of all human beings.  I always thought Solomon prayed for wisdom from God.  But I was wrong. When you look closer, Solomon asked for a “God- listening heart” to help lead his people.  And you know what God was excited about Solomon’s response.  From the Message these are God’s Words,”Because you have asked for this and haven’t grasped after a long life, or riches, or the doom of your enemies, but you have asked for the ability to lead and govern well, I’ll give you what you’ve asked for—I’m giving you a wise and mature heart. There’s never been one like you before; and there’ll be no one after. As a bonus, I’m giving you both the wealth and glory you didn’t ask for—there’s not a king anywhere who will come up to your mark. And if you stay on course, keeping your eye on the life-map and the God-signs as your father David did, I’ll also give you a long life.”

Wow!  What promises God made to Solomon.  I decided to pray for “God like patient heart”.  When life seems out of control, I just want a have patience like He has.
