Why in the world would I choose to sacrifice for 40 days?  What good would 40 days do? 40 days is approximately 6 weeks.  Many scientific trials take place over 6 weeks in order to get a proper result, a reliable result.  And biblically, throughout scripture the length of 40 seems to be a magical estimate of time: Jesus in the wilderness for 40 days, Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years , and the Israelites in slavery for 400 years.  So, let’s test our bodies and present an offering to God over these next 40 days. Our offering is going to be our health, a change in behavior to eliminate some of the toxins in the body that He created. 

An offering.  The Hebrew word that we are going to use during these 40 days is the word, minkha, meaning an offering, a gift, a tribute, specifically a sacrificial offering, usually voluntary. The first time this word was used in creation was by Cain and Abel, the first children on earth. (Genesis 4:4,5)  For some unknown reason, they both decided to give an offering to God. What we do know is that God was privy to Able’s offering. Was Able’s offering more righteous? (Hebrew’s 11:4) Was the offering of meat better than fruit? Was God a carnivore and not a vegetarian? The scriptures do not tell us.  What we do know is that Able had a righteous heart and Cain did not. Matthew 23:34 (Jesus himself said so) 

So let’s bring forth our offering these 40 days, incorporating  a faithful righteous heart while we cultivate real changes in our hearts and in our bodies.
