“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. “
Romans 12:1 ( The Message)
Today’s devotion is going to focus on health and faith. Spiritual health and physical health can be closely connected. The verses from Romans 12:1 remind us of this. Gerald Winslow, Professor, LLU School of Religion, stated that the more we learn about human health in relationship to faith, the more we see that faith and health are inextricably linked. We were created by our Maker as whole persons. ….The Apostle Paul encourages Christians to “offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship” (Romans 12:1 NRSV). Those who care about human health do well to consider the growing evidence for the importance of the faith factor. https://record.adventistchurch.com/2015/05/14/what-s-the-connection-health-experts-weigh-in/
The Seventh Day Adventist view health as essential to their faith. According to Dan Buettner the author of the Blue Zones Kitchen . They live as much as a decade longer than the rest of us, and much of their longevity can be attributed to vegetarianism and regular exercise. I think we can learn a lot from their teachings. I’ve been trying out a few of the Blue Zones Cookbook recipes. An entire chapter of this beautiful resource is devoted to their diet. I find it all fascinating.
Let’s spend the rest of this devotion time contemplating what it means to live as a living sacrifice for God. If we were healthier, our bodies were stronger, what could we be doing for God?
Tomorrow, we will focus on the next verses Romans 12:2. This is my all time favorite verse. My life verse, I guess you could say. It brought me out of a very ugly dark time of my life, to help discern Gods will for my life. “Do not be conformed to this world; but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to discern what is Gods will.” Romans 12:2
Speaking of favorite things. Today’s spotify song is my all time favorite song, “It Is Well” by Bethel music. This song indeed lifted me up at another dark time in life when I was dealing with the enemy. I’m so grateful for music. I’m so grateful for this song.
