1 Corinthians 6:19 – 20
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
Happy Hanukkah! Could I have that right? This is a lenten devotion, correct? However, for our journey these 40 days, this expression may fit more appropriately. Did you know that the word for hanukkah means dedication? Hanukkah is the celebration of the re-dedication of the temple for the Israelites after they rebuilt it. Is not our journey this month to grow closer to God and to rededicate our temples, our bodies?
So Happy Hanukkah! Celebrate your journey of rededicating your temple to our savior. Take some time today, and read through 1 Corinthians 6: 9-20. Paul was addressing a group of new believers in the church that were struggling. That church, individually, was dealing with their own conflicts and sin. In particular, sexual immorality was the issue at hand. On your own, read through these verses. Pull out Paul’s comments about the body. Rewrite them if you need to and fill in your blanks. Our bodies were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies. (verse 13) Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? (verse 15) Make this story your own.
